  • Here i've done a draft line of action for my steam that will rise from the coffee machine. That is in the light blue. Some things i learned was that you cannot change the direction of the line - which i made the mistake of doing when they became horizontal. In the darker blue is where the weight will be. This is my basis for where i will start to draw on top of in detail, in order for it to make sense.

    Straight ahead animation

these are faster than the actual animation will be, the steam will be relatively slow (maybe?) and the fact frame will pop up much quicker

  • Starts with cricket hopping around Te Ara Hihiko, zooms out to reveal Large frank - who eats him.

(explosion hangs on string, starts small then moves closer to cam until it fills the frame.)

Flesh bits are cut out and stuck on with blue tack, spread and fall into a pile.Cricket emerges from pile and hops on.

Kurt Vonnegut's 8 tips for writing a short story:
    1. - Use the time of a total stranger in such a way that he or she will not feel the time was wasted.

    2. - Give the reader at least one character he or she can root for.

    3. - Every character should want something, even if it is only a glass of water.

    4. - Every sentence must do one of two things-reveal character or advance the action.

    5. - Start as close to the end as possible.

    6. - Be a Sadist. No matter how sweet and innocent your leading characters, make awful things happen to them-in order that the reader may see what they are made of.

    7. - Write to please just one person. If you open a window and make love to the world, so to speak, your story will get pneumonia.

    8. - Give your readers as much information as possible as soon as possible. To hell with suspense. Readers should have such complete understanding of what is going on, where and why, that they could finish the story themselves, should cockroaches eat the last few pages.

    - Don't give your audience 4, give them 2 + 2

    - Drama is anticipation mingled with uncertainty

  • Geometric Based cut out creature.
I did this by bluetacking the peices onto a window. In hindsight I should have moved the bushes over to create a more appropriate backdrop. I actually took the images backwards when I realised i'd drawn the armadillo head facing the wrong way. It would be fun to take this creature further, maybe make a proper puppet for him, 2d or 3d even!

Google imaging an armadillo for reference was pretty fun. Look at this guy!!

  • 74 images all together. This took a lot of time. Cutting out the card, glueing in onto cardboard, pinning at the right joints, adding extra card layers and cutting pins down so the limbs don't intersect and collide, then photographing and aligning and resizing every layer for each frame! The puppet needs to be on a flat surface to not fall limp so i couldn't use my tripod. However next time i'll try to set up the camera facing down anyway! Really enjoyed making this guy, and so cool to see him come to life!

  • This took a lot longer than it looks. Gotta learn by doing!

  • A creature based off a geometric shape. First idea was a whale, but further development and consideration led me to a jellyfish. "box" jellyfish. heh.
A jellyfish immediately inspires graceful fluid movement so will be rewarding to animate.

Later photoshop gif, allows more effects and steady frame rate and framing.
